Objectives
To do basic research in Oceanography and Limnology.
Main functions
To publish research results in national and international journals.
To do research in the fields of Oceanography and Limnology.
To deal with issues regarding the management of coastal areas, rivers and lakes as requested by the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.
To promote relationships with universities and institutions to stimulate the establishment of internships for students and professors to learn new subjects of study.
To disseminate knowledge to the national population related to extraordinary maritime events to prevent them from natural disasters.

Remunerated
Analysis of samples from reservoirs, rivers, and lakes, with the purpose of financing research projects in Limnology.
Non Remunerated
The forecast of waves for the coasts of our country through a smartphone application of the Oceanographic Information Module (MIO, for its acronym in Spanish-CIMAR).
