AUGE among the 20 best linked-to-universities incubators worldwide

The Agencia Universitaria para la Gestión del Emprendimiento (AUGE), [University Agency for Entrepreneurship Management] of the Vice-Rector for Research of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), stood out in the ranking of the best incubators and accelerators in the world. Such a list is published by UBI Global, the organization and data intelligence community acknowledged for its work in high quality business incubation assessments.

The University of Costa Rica launches a new scientific dissemination strategy

With a message that seeks to establish and sensitize the national community, the University of Costa Rica inaugurates this November a dissemination strategy to show that science is part of our daily activities and it contributes to people’s well-being.

This initiative is jointly developed by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and the Office of Disclosure and Information (ODI) of the UCR. Researchers from different disciplines of this University also participate.

The Science Bus Starts Up

Here the activities of the Science Bus took place at the Carlos Manuel Vicente Castro Professional Technical High School and the Osa Professional Technical High School.

There were talks aimed at children, others aimed at young people, and at night, the target audience was adults.

In the activity in Golfito, the Science Bus deals with the results of scientific research carried out in the Brunca Region, which directly benefits that area and its inhabitants.

UCR students present their work at a symposium on research in the US

The forum, organized by William Marsh Rice University, known as Rice University, is called the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium (GCURS), during which Costa Rican university students will present the results of their investigations.

The chemistry student, Camila Hernández-Murillo, will present the results of her research on identifying the materials and minerals with which pre-Columbian archaeological pieces were made.

Humboldt Chair held International Congress at the University of Costa Rica

They attended the “International Congress: Writing in Displacement: Travel, Expeditions and Shipwrecks”, which was held on October, 21 - 25 at the National Library and at the UCR Golfito Campus, convened by the Humboldt Chair of the Vice-Rector for Research.

National and foreign guests shared the results of their research framed in the general field of Hispanicism, from the perspective of different fields such as linguistics, literature, history, theater, art, cinema or cultural studies.

This year, in its second edition, it is exhibited in 114 locations in 45 cities in 23 countries around the world.

Within more than 5,000 projects from 82 countries that participated, just over a hundred were chosen, among which one presented by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) was selected.

From August 5 to September 30, the Gulfstream-V aircraft overflies the national airspace to collect data used for research by the NSF and the United States National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Costa Rica was chosen in this study due to its geographical location between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Sea surface temperatures vary between the two oceans, which has not been fully investigated and a better understanding of the effects of convection is needed.

UCREA and advanced study centers in Latin America create collaborative network

It was signed by the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of San Paulo, Brazil; the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies of the University of Guadalajara (CALAS); the Center for Advanced Multidisciplinary Studies of the University of Brasilia (CEAM), Brazil: the Institute for Advanced Studies of the Coast of the National University of the Coast, Argentina; the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Santiago, Chile (IDEA); and the University Space for Advanced Studies (UCREA), of the UCR.

Neuroscience Research Center Receives International Recognition

On July 18, the Center for Research in Neurosciences (CIN) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR) received the "Rubén Ardila Award for Scientific Research in Psychology", conferred by the Foundation for the Advancement of Psychology in the framework of the Inter-American Congress of Psychology, sponsored by the Interamerican Society of Psychology, among other organizations.

In previous years, the award was only given to psychologists who individually made great contributions to the scientific research of the field.

Costa Rica in position 66 of world ranking in artificial intelligence out of 194 countries

Last May, the “Government Preparation Index in Artificial Intelligence” was published, an analysis of 194 countries prepared by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada, where Singapore ranks first, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States; Japan is tenth on the list.
