It is a multidisciplinary unit dedicated to systematic research in the field of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Science and Information Engineering. It works focused on research, training, and provision of specialized services in the areas of Seismic Engineering, Forest Resources, Maritime and Fluvial Engineering, Mechatronics, Metrology and Quality, pulp and paper, sustainable design, audiovisual product design and specialized information services.

It carries out multidisciplinary research in the pharmaceutical area and related fields looking for the scientific and technological advance.

It also performs pharmaceutical appraisals of medical substances and offers repetitive technical services, advice and biopharmaceutical and bioequivalent studies, dissolution profiles that benefit state and private institutions.

Economic Sciences Research Institute (IICE, for its acronym in Spanish)

The Economic Sciences Research Institute is the oldest research institute of the University of Costa Rica. It begins its functions in 1955 through a cooperative plan of several state organisms and a Research Project in Economic Development of Costa Rica.

In 1960, the program was transformed into an Institute of Economic Research, and got a solid and permanent personality. In 1970, three research centers were merged and from there it arouses the current Economic Sciences Research Institute.

It makes and stimulates the systematic research on Psychology, and it promotes programs and projects of interdisciplinary character. This allows giving training services especially through courses. It plans, develops and disseminates research in different branches of Legal Science. The training offered covers a great variety of themes such as General Penal Law, Copyright, Agrarian Law, International and Intellectual Property among others.
