INTEGRATING THE BEHAVIOURAL AND CHEMICAL ECOLOGY OF ANTIPREDATOR DEFENCES IN COSTA RICAN POISON FROGS
Objetivos
We will test the hypothesis that escape behaviour is affected in predictable ways by variation in antipredator colours and toxicity. We predict that conspicuous and chemically defended species will display bolder behaviour including increased time spent moving and foraging as well as slow and predictable movement patterns. We also predict that cryptic and undefended individuals will call from substrates where conspicuousness to predators is the lowest, and will display more rapid movements.
