MOTIVATIONS AND MOVEMENT: MODELING MIGRATION TO BUFFER ZONES OF THREE COSTA RICA NATIONAL PARKS
Objetivos
IN SUM, THIS RESEARCH WILL BUILD A MODEL OF MIGRATION AROUND THREE NATIONAL PARKS THAT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT MIGRANTS’ PERCEPTIONS AND ACTUAL CONDITIONS FIT THE EXISTING MODELS DEVELOPED TO EXPLAIN POPULATION GROWTH ON THE EDGES OF PAS. BY THE END OF THIS RESEARCH WE WILL HAVE ANSWERS TO SEVERAL CRITICALLY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS IN REGARD TO CONSERVATION, DEVELOPMENT AND HUMAN MIGRATION: • DO MIGRANTS TO PA BUFFER ZONES HAVE SHARED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR PREFERENCES THAT MOTIVATE THEM TO LIVE ON THE EDGES OF PARKS? • IF IT EXISTS, DOES THIS SHARED KNOWLEDGE HELP US TO UNDERSTAND POPULATION GROWTH DUE TO MIGRATION IN PA BUFFER ZONES GLOBALLY? • HOW DO MIGRANTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF CONDITIONS IN BOTH THEIR RECEIVING AND SENDING COMMUNITIES COMPARE TO THE MEASURED CONDITIONS IN BOTH PLACES?
